About this painting

I purchased some condoms in 2008, and in early 2014 re-discovered these, finding the date expired. This touching discovery prompted me to paint them, quietly, carefully in extreme detail, almost in penance, like a monk.

For me, this evoked the thought of the artist Juan Sánchez Cotán, who painted still life images of food with that same reverential, monastic quality, floating items painted with extreme patience and care. That artist indeed became a monk and this painting became my tribute to his work.
