About this painting
Sometimes life can feel pointless, like a long slog, and this often happens after working the hardest. This was my inspiration for this painting.

A stone figure reaches in the sunset sky towards a black hole. A drooping sunflower shows tiredness, the end of work perhaps, or life, or even an unconscious homage to van Gogh.

Unusually for me, a lot of this work was improvised, rather than modelled. The sunflower is a symbol of life and hope, and work, and perhaps even the soul, a burning passion.
