Technical details
The painting is shown here half complete. An imprimatura of ultramarine is common, the blues are weaker and more transparent generally and benefit from a base layer of that hue. You can see that the flesh is more yellow. It's a good idea to use different hues in subsequent layers and I like to glaze red over yellow when painting flesh tones.
