About this painting
This was a commission for a bedroom. The initial briefing was "abstract" and "blue", and I suggested a part-surreal and part-abstract painting.

The floating kite shapes are echoed in the triangular sail and its vague reflection. The moon, surrounded by delicate stars in silver paint, and the arc are also related. The arc is used to add depth and, together with the sunset, a suggestion of a pleasant future; a distant dream. The red triangle with its golden orb eye peers over the soft mountains like a paternal cyclops, its angles suggesting a fourth gigantic kite in the deep warm ocean.
