Slender Threads

Friendship hangs on slender threads,
a week or two alone can break them.
A solitude can soothe the heart,
and make it better to be apart.

The evenings spent stroking threads
once taut, now limp from cold clay limbs,
and smiles to think of each one made
in days once bright, now still and greyed.
