Cracks

Cracks,
fine lines,
in white flesh once so smooth.
Each line a worry,
scar or thought.
Veins of memory, caught.

The varnish yellowed.
Smile obscured
by layers of years,
as dust and tears,
smoke,
sight and lover's pay
visit to the face
now faded,
dark and grey.

A life before
the eyes were bright.
Her master's care
and gaze by fire light.
In charcoal soft,
from flesh observed
each human blink
and youthful curve.
