One Last Time

Past the broken shop on the corner,
and the cottage cat that rubs up the fence.
Dogs walked by a different you.
Everywhere I see bits of memory.

Turn to the main road in the sunset.
Passing by the cars that hiss like the wind.
Birds sing to the fading sun,
to another night like the last one.

One last time,
down the pavement
to your house
Let me see you
one last time before I
sleep tonight.

Down the avenue where I met you.
Glancing at the stream we felt in the spring.
Children walking in the park.
Wonder if they dream of their future.

Every precious step to your window.
Passing through the gate that creaks as I push.
Love's here, thought you'd want to know.
Thought I'd come and say I still love you.

One last time,
down the pavement to your house
Let me see you
one last time before I
sleep tonight.

Looking at your eyes through the window.
Looking at the room I know very well.
You're gone, now I know it's true.
Now I know it's time to go.

One last time,
down the pavement to your house
Had to see you
one last time before I
said goodbye.
