Before We Walked Away

She pauses only for a moment,
then puts the flowers down and goes
among the cedar trees and cawing crows.

His only passion was the telly
and smoking cigarettes all day.
He knew the crows would find him anyway.

And he looked just like me,
everybody said it,
and now she walks away.

And now she's coming back to see me,
to see me waiting here at home.
The house is empty now and I'm alone.

I see his marks upon the sofa
and smell the dying nicoteen
And now there's nothing left of him but me.

And he looked just like me,
everybody said it,
before we walked away.
