Backwards

Well I was born
(I wish I wasn't but hey)
and then I ate
and slept for most of the day.
I went to school
(well it was something to do)
I messed around
with bits of pasta and glue.
I made a friend
we'd run around (don't know why).
And if I fell
I used to break down and cry.
And I found out
that life was not very nice.
I learned to count,
knowing my age was the price.

Did you ever want to live your life backwards
because backwards it gets better every day?
Did you ever want to live your life backwards
because backwards it gets better every day?

I studied hard.
I made a doctor of ph
to understand
the very nature of "the".
It didn't help
but I grew older and wise.
I had a beard
and tweedy jackets and ties.
I came to think
of all the things I had done,
and things I won't
within the future to come.
And then the years
began to take off and fly.
I saw like, June;
and then another went by.

Did you ever want to live your life backwards
because backwards it gets better every day?
Did you ever want to live your life backwards
because backwards it gets better every day?

Well now it seems
I'm at the end of a road.
My friends are dead
or else they're ugly and old.
I spend my days
drinking my orange and stew
and making crap
from bits of pasta and glue.
Well some believe
we can come back when we're dead
(I'd rather not,
life is a pain in the head)
but if it's true
and if I don't have a choice
I shall return
as a SEA CUCUMBER.

Did you ever want to live your life backwards
because backwards it gets better every day?
Did you ever want to live your life backwards
because backwards it gets better every day?
