About This Album

A single release and my first cover version. Cheshire poet John Lindley is host of regular poetry and music open-mic events. Some of these events are themed around a specific song writer, and in August 2026 the subject of one such event was Paul McCartney.

I wanted to perform a McCartney solo song rather than a Beatles number, so chose 'Women and Wives' from his 2020 album McCartney III. Staging was limited, all of the performers used guitars (well, one used a violin, and one a guitar synthesizer!). I used my small Microkorg, with a guitar strap for a standing performance, and deliberately chose electronic sounds for the analogue synthesizer to create a unique version of the song. I don't see the point in trying to emulate Paul's version, nobody could perform that better than he. My performance went down well, so I decided to record it and release it on streaming-only platforms.

I took the opportunity to include a B-side, so wrote something new for the occasion. I chose a few chords and a simple melody, then wrote some words once the melody was finalised. The result was 'Smile to Fall'.
