About this painting
This was inspired by a birthday card image of a summer cornfield regressing towards a distant tree. I liked the colours and decided to transform the sky into a face and the corn into hair. It became one of several works of portraits made from landscapes.

The face, made of hollow sky, turning away, and a hair style reminiscent of the 1930's combine to give an impression of recalling a distant memory. The tree adds variety to an otherwise limited colour scheme and helps draw a dynamic line through the face to the large cloud near the top right corner. Imagine the picture without the tree to see its significance.
