About this painting
This idea came to me on the evening of February 15th 2009 while considering lots of issues regarding family, personality, and relationships which were dominating my life at the time. The central premise is that of hiding a personality behind a false personality which results in depression, because of a selfishness of wanting to hide something from others.

A monolithic figure cowers in shame from the gaze of a God, the light of truth. A glowing door in the body of the figure indicates that light was inside anyway, the act of hiding caused the shadows. Dark green is the most depressive of colours and is used to that effect, in contrast to the glorious colour of golden yellows that surround the figure.

Technical details
Many of my paintings begin with a study, generally a simplified copy of the picture designed to evaluate the final colours and tones. As is common, this study was smaller than the original.
