Technical details
The initial idea was 2D and black and white, giving lots of choices regarding colours. The blue sky and red sunset were obvious, as was flesh for main face, but leaning towards yellow because it touched blue. The violet knife blade keyed off that yellow flesh and the Venetian red hand was perfect as a violet-red to bridge the gap between the grey knife and the scarlet blood. The dark green background was the last choice, to create a violent clash with the blood.
