Now We Must Go

Frankincense and oak wood curls
around halls of shadows and velvet loss
Distant bells sing their lament
to the world

Oh, how the liquid waves of feeling
are drowned, in wheeling smoke
pulled down and choked by civilisation
It's in hope we are dealing

And now we must go
walk on over the bones
And now we must go
over the animal souls
of the past
to the field
to the long tangled grass
to the meadows
to the trees and lake of time
frozen in snow like an edelwiess
now we must go

Centuries of hope poured into your image
of hope, of trust in nothing
Distant bells sing their lament
to a world

Oh, how the liquid waves of feeling
are drowned, in wheeling smoke
pulled down and choked by civilisation
It's in hope we are dealing

Yet in hope we must go
walk on over the bones
In hope we must go
over the animal souls
of the past
to the field
to the long tangled grass
to the meadows
to the trees and lake of time
frozen in snow like an edelwiess
fed on fear and blood, but now stone
all of the sadness has turned into bones
and the prayers are now poems
and the Frankincense pills
because science has cured every ill
so with it, we will go.
Amen.
